All survivors have the same basic needs for health care, emotional support, the means to earn an income, and the skills to advocate for their rights. Survivor Corps addresses those needs by training and connecting survivors to help one another overcome trauma, reclaim their lives, and actively participate in social change. This approach is known as peer support.
Survivor Corps has spent 10 years developing successful peer support programs to help survivors of war and trauma. Since 1997 we have made over 116,700 home and hospital visits to survivors. At Survivor Corps, we believe that everyone can overcome tragedy with the support of peers who have gone through a similar experience and successfully moved on with their lives. Our services are delivered by trained peer support workers who are also conflict survivors. These seasoned survivor mentors offer understanding and support as well as links to health care, jobs and information that help heal and empower the newly victimized and reconnect them with others. Peer support helps individuals recover and thrive and also builds a network of survivor citizens working together towards positive changes in their communities and in the world.
You or your organization can learn how to use peer support to help trauma victims recover and thrive. We have provided trainings to individuals and organizations from more than forty countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, South East Europe and the Middle East. We are currently expanding the availability of our signature peer support workshops.
